João Schmidt is the Chief Business Development Officer of Naxxar Energy Group. He holds an Executive MBA from IE Business School in Madrid and brings more than 20 years of international experience in renewable energy and clean technology, spanning business development, project origination, project finance, M&A and strategic partnerships across Europe and Latin America.
Before joining Naxxar in late 2025, João held senior business development roles at Statkraft and Iberdrola. He has led renewable projects across solar PV, onshore wind, BESS, EV infrastructure, green hydrogen, and biomass, covering the full project lifecycle from market entry and permitting through financing, construction, and operation. His experience also includes structuring corporate and utility-scale PPAs, including arrangements for industrial customers and data-center developments.
Among his achievements, João co-developed a 146 MWp solar project in Chile through financial close, led wind and solar development in Mexico, and advanced 270 MWp of Portuguese solar and 450 MW of hybrid wind projects at Iberdrola. At Naxxar, he leads commercial growth, project origination, acquisitions and strategic partnerships, supporting the development of a diversified pan-European renewable-energy platform.
